"Zacząłem być skinheadem jakoś na początku lat 60. i przestałem, gdy się okazało, że bycie skinheadem oznacza regularne bijatyki, i że te bijatyki bolą. Potem, w połowie lat 70 wróciłem, już jako fotograf, i byli to zupełnie inna subkultura.
Właśnie z tamtego czasu pochodzą te zdjęcia.
Z tego co wiem, każda z tych osób albo odbywa wyrok, albo nie żyje. Mam nadzieję, że to nieprawda, ponieważ nie wszyscy oni byli źli. Byli po prostu zagubieni i pozbawieni nadziei. Wątpię jednak, by któreś z nich wyszło na prostą. Wciąż kręcę się po naszych starych rejonach, chodzę na koncerty i do klubów, a mimo to, ani razu nikogo z nich więcej już nie spotkałem."

"I was a skinhead in the late ’60s and gave it up when I discovered it involved fighting and that fighting hurts. Then, in the mid- to late ’70s, I hung out with them again as a photographer and it was a totally different scene.
These photos are from that era.
For all I know they are all dead now or in jail. I hope I’m wrong because a lot of these guys were not, basically, bad guys. They were just very confused and they had very little hope. I doubt any of them are doing all right. I still hang out in most of the areas I photographed these Skinheads in, and I still go to a lot of gigs and nightclubs, and I never, ever see any of them."
